How Can I Vote?

East Lansing Voting Logistics

 

Registering To Vote:

Need to register to vote?

Starting October 19, those wishing to register to vote for the upcoming November 2, 2021 General Election must do so in person at their local clerk’s office and must provide proof of residency. This proof must include your name and current address and can be in electronic format. Acceptable forms for East Lansing voters include:

- MSU LiveOn App

- Michigan driver’s license or state ID

- Current utility bill

- Bank statement

- Paycheck or government check

- Other government document

For Michigan State Students:

MSU Student can register at the clerk’s office at East Lansing City Hall or at the Satellite Clerk’s Office in Brody Hall on campus. The satellite office in Brody is open 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Casting Your Vote:

Casting Your Vote Via Mail:

 All eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absentee voter ballot without providing a reason. Voters may request an absentee voter (AV) ballot in person at the City Clerk's office, 410 Abbot Road.

East Lansing voters can drop off their voted AV ballots at ballot drop box locations in the community

There are now four ballot drop box locations in East Lansing:

  • East Lansing City Hall (north parking lot), 410 Abbot Road

  • East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbot Road

  • East Lansing Department of Public Works, 1800 E. State Road

  • MSU-CATA Transportation Center, 592 N. Shaw Lane

The drop boxes are secured and checked daily by City Clerk’s office staff.

Casting Your Vote In Person:

To vote in person voters must fill out a provided ballot at a designated polling location in your city or township.

A picture ID is required for in- person voter registration.

  • If the applicant does not present a photo ID, an "Affidavit Of Voter Not In Possession of Picture Identification" must be signed.

The following forms of ID are acceptable:

  • Driver’s license or personal identification card issued by another state

  • Federal or state government-issued photo identification

  • Military identification card with photo

  • Student identification with photo from a high school or an accredited institution of higher education

  • Tribal identification card with photo U.S. passport

Polling Locations:

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day

The answer is to use your school address when registering to vote!

2. What if I’m from Michigan and go to a school outside the state? How do I vote?

Use your in-state address to register to vote!

3. What if I’m from Michigan and go to school here? How do I vote?
Use your home address to register to vote!
